Le Plan -de- la-Tour (until 2008 Plan-de- la-Tour ) is a commune in the Var department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d’ Azur.
Le Plan -de- la-Tour is surrounded by wooded hills in a fertile plain at the Préconil and its tributaries in the Massif des Maures . From here, the Colle Dure to 538 m and 412 m Santpeire to rise . The beginnings of the history of Le Plan -de- la-Tour date back to prehistoric times. Dolmens, menhirs and arrowheads document the presence of people in the Neolithic and Bronze Age megalithic culture about 2500 years before our era. Archaeological finds prove the settlement in the Celtic- Ligurian and the Gallo- Roman era.
After the Saracen settlement in the early Middle Ages , the recent history between the 10th begins and 12 Century with a small hilltop village that appears as Castrum de Planaturris in the sources. In the 15th Century drew the population fleeing from the advancing Saracens back into the hinterland back . Soon the area, which had furthermore suffered from outbreaks of plague , almost completely abandoned by humans.
